Activity 3: Wild Animals

It’s time to meet the animals that live in Africa.
In this playful activity (written using Gemini 2.5 Flash AI), the child and parent will get to know the unique characteristics of each animal and recreate the animals of Africa together.
A creative activity that develops body awareness, movement, and humor, and is especially suited for shared quality time.

The Activity

  • Prepare large cards of key body parts of the animals chosen for the activity. For example:
    Lion: Mane (made of paper/strings).
Giraffe: Long neck (an elongated strip of paper).
Elephant: Long trunk and large ears.
Rhinoceros: Hard horn (made of cardboard).
Zebra: Stripe pattern (black and white).
    \(\space\)
Playful conversation: The parent presents each part and imitates the animal: “This trunk belongs to the elephant! It is used for gripping. If you had a trunk, what would you do with it?”
    \(\space\)
  • Defining a “power”: The parent and child choose one quality that the child likes or needs (for example: “I want to be the tallest” or “I want to be brave”).
    \(\space\)
Choosing the parts: Based on the quality, the child chooses three different body parts from the cards.
Example: If the child wants to be brave and tall, they will choose the lion’s mane (courage) and the giraffe’s neck (height).
    \(\space\)
Assembly: The parent assists the child in pasting the three chosen body parts onto a blank drawing page (the child can draw a basic body). The result is a new and funny creature: a giraffe with a mane and a trunk, or a zebra with a horn.
  • Invent together a funny name for the new creature (for example: “the Elephant-o-giraffe” or “Lion-rhino-zebra”).
    \(\space\)
The parent asks: “How does our ‘Lion-rhino-zebra’ use its special powers in the savanna?” The child shares a sentence or two about the new creature.
    \(\space\)
Shared movement: The parent and child get up and imitate the movement and sound of the newly created confused animal. (For example: walking slowly like an elephant but roaring like a lion).
