This page showcases some of the events, activities, and year-end ceremonies held during the years of operation of Range Center’s Youth and Children Unit (the unit operated between 2008–2021). We invite you to view the variety of fascinating topics and educational experiences our outstanding and gifted students have enjoyed.

Comet Model, 2019–2020

This fascinating course took students on a journey into the depths of space. The children learned the fundamentals of cosmology, explored various bodies within and outside the solar system, and applied the theoretical knowledge practically by creating an accurate comet model. The hands-on activity allowed them to better understand the structure and composition of these bodies and their movement in space.

2019–2020

During the pandemic, Range Center staff worked diligently to maintain a high-quality and enriching learning sequence. Studies transitioned to online platforms, and additional virtual enrichment sessions were added, allowing children to continue exploring and learning from their homes while maintaining a warm connection with the center’s staff and their peers.

Hanukkah, 2018–2019

Every year, we made sure to observe Jewish holidays in a warm and educational atmosphere. During the Hanukkah holiday, a festive candle-lighting ceremony was held for all learning groups, accompanied by sufganiyot (doughnuts) and a brief enrichment activity that linked the concept of the “light of science” with the “light of the holiday.”

Meeting with Shahar the Veterinarian, 2018–2019

As part of deepening the understanding of the subject matter, we hosted Shahar the veterinarian, who presented the students with the brains of various animals (a calf and a rat). This physical demonstration allowed the students to tangibly see and compare the anatomical structure of mammalian brains, thereby gaining a deep understanding of the relationship between structure and the neurological function they were studying in the course.

Year-End Meeting and Summary, 2018–2019

A festive year-end conference at Eshkol Tower summarized the fascinating school year (May 12, 2019). Students from the “Rhetoric” course presented a structured debate according to debate rules, “Logic and Thinking Games” students presented research they had conducted throughout the year, and students of “Journey to the Human Brain” shared the course content through an experiential escape-room-style quiz.

Year-End Meeting and Summary, 2017–2018

On May 6, 2018, the year-end conference for the 2017–2018 school year at Range Center was held at Eshkol Tower. The ceremony was opened by Prof. Roza Leikin, Head of the Center, and joined by warm greetings from Professor Hanan Alexander, Dean of the Faculty of Education. Ms. Anat Shayer, Director of the Unit for Excellence at the Haifa Municipality, also greeted the students.

At this conference, students presented their research projects from a variety of courses to their parents and other guests. Among the topics presented were insights from “Brain Research,” exposure to “21st-Century Inventions,” works from the “Computer Programming and Drones” laboratory, as well as logic puzzles and thinking games played by students together with their parents.

Meeting with Yoav and the 3D Printer He Built

In this course, students were exposed to the cutting edge of modern technology. Yoav, who was hosted at the center, showed the students the 3D printer he built himself. The children gained practical experience in designing models using 3D drafting software, and selected models were even printed. The meeting provided a fascinating glimpse into the world of digital manufacturing and spatial printing.

Researchers’ Night, 2017–2018

Range Center took an active part in Researchers’ Night at the University of Haifa (September 11, 2018), setting up a central station on the subject of the human brain. The station included an experiential workshop activity for the whole family, alongside an interactive quiz on brain functions. The center’s students assisted in running the station and explained the wonderful system of the brain to visitors.

Year-End Meeting and Summary, 2016–2017

The year-end conference for this year was held at the Rabin Observatory at the University of Haifa (May 28, 2017). Prof. Roza Leikin, Head of the Center, opened the ceremony, followed by a thought-provoking lecture titled “Thinking Towards Tomorrow,” which reviewed developments and innovations in brain research. Subsequently, students shared their experiences, experiments, and insights gained during the joint meetings throughout the year with their parents and guests.

Year-End Meeting and Summary, 2015–2016

On May 8, 2016, the year-end conference for the 2015–2016 school year at Range Center took place. The ceremony was opened by Prof. Roza Leikin, Head of the Center

During the conference, students presented their research activities from the school year to parents and additional guests. The guests were impressed by the in-depth research conducted by the students and observed the results of the creative learning processes carried out at Range Center.

Researchers’ Night, 2014–2015

At Researchers’ Night held at the University of Haifa on September 21, 2015, Range Center also participated, setting up a fascinating station that dealt with questions about the human brain. The station was prepared and operated by the students under the guidance of the center’s staff and inspired by the model they presented at their year-end conference the previous school year in the “Journey to the Human Brain” course.

Their station included an interactive quiz about the human brain, which the audience answered using smartphones and tablets. The questions, answers, and explanations were viewed in real-time on giant screens placed at the site. The variety of questions was broad and interesting.

Presentation of Year-End Projects, 2013–2014

40 outstanding and gifted students in grades 7–9 from across Haifa presented their final project at the Student House at the University of Haifa.

“Psychology” course offered an interpretation of the Milgram experiment (in which it was found that ordinary people exhibit an extreme willingness to obey instructions from an authority figure, even when it involves harming another person). Graduates of the “Architecture” course presented 2D and 3D works, “Brain Research” students lectured on brain functions, and “Logic” students presented creative solutions to mathematical problems. In addition, products from other courses such as “Computerized Applications” and “Chinese Culture” were displayed. These projects were the culmination of a whole year of in-depth learning.

תצוגת פרויקטים בחממה לתלמידים מחוננים באוניברסיטת חיפה

40 תלמידים מצטיינים ומחוננים בכיתות ז’-ט’ מרחבי העיר חיפה, הציגו את פרויקט הסיום שלהם בבית הסטודנט באוניברסיטת חיפה.

תלמידי קורס “פסיכולוגיה” הציעו פרשנות לניסוי מילגרם (שבו נמצא כי אנשים רגילים מפגינים נכונות קיצונית לציית להוראות של דמות סמכותית, גם כאשר הדבר כרוך בפגיעה באדם אחר).
בוגרי קורס “ארכיטקטורה” הציגו עבודות דו- ותלת-מימד, תלמידי “חקר המוח” הירצו על תפקודי המוח, ותלמידי “לוגיקה” הציגו פתרונות יצירתיים לבעיות מתמטיות.
בנוסף, הוצגו תוצרים מקורסים נוספים כגון “אפליקציות ממוחשבות” ו”התרבות הסינית”.
הפרויקטים הללו היוו שיא של שנה שלמה של למידה מעמיקה.
