Activity 1: There Must Be a Child
Have you ever thought that you might have a doppelgänger on the other side of the world?
The following activity (by: Roni Gonen – Eiron) takes us on an exciting journey following a book that bridges cultural gaps through a shared story.
We will explore together the power of words in two languages – Hebrew and Chinese – discover the hidden similarities among all of us, and try to create a new and unique family story of our own.
There Must Be a Child / Elad Wingrad
“There must be a child in China who is just like me,
Really in every way.
He looks exactly like me,
Only with slanted eyes.”
The activity is based on reading the book “There Must Be a Child” by: Elad Wingrad (Agam Publishing House, 2009).
The story focuses on the similar and the universal.
The entire story is translated into Chinese, with the Hebrew text and the Chinese text written side by side.
The Activity
- Reading the story (it can be borrowed from the library).
\(\space\) - Finding repeating words in Hebrew and Chinese, you can try to copy them.
\(\space\) - Writing and illustrating together a similar story – about your child, their favorite things, their family members, etc.
