Activity 1: The Story of Isis
The following activity (by: Roni Gonen – Eiron) is based on the book “Six Great Heroines in the Mythologies of the World’s Peoples” by Shoham Smith. The activity exposes the complex world of the gods in Egyptian mythology and invites an ethical discussion.
Isis – Goddess, Sorceress, and Magician
Isis is one of the four important gods of ancient Egypt.
One of her best-known hallmarks is the sun disk on her head.
Isis is the granddaughter of Ra, the father of the gods. She is the sister of Set and the sister-beloved of Osiris.
Together with Osiris, she ruled in Egypt and symbolized the good.
They taught humans to live in peace, to raise animals and plants for food, to use medicinal plants, and many other crafts without which culture would not exist.
The Activity
- Reading the story of Isis with your child (can be borrowed from the library).
\(\space\) - Getting to know the different characters presented in the story.
A discussion can be held regarding the moral question that Isis faced and to examine the reasons that led her to act in this way.
\(\space\) - Drawing the sun disk that symbolizes Isis.
