Pedagogical Research and Development Programs

Range Center leads a variety of programs that provide a broad pedagogical framework for mathematics education in Israel – from elementary to high school. The center’s philosophy is based on a multi-dimensional approach, viewing the teacher’s professional expertise as the key to promoting students’ understanding and motivation.

The Uniqueness of the Framework

For the student: Stepped task database, interactive applets, and differentiated learning.

For the teacher: Learning communities, analysis of critical incidents, and development of pedagogical flexibility.

For the system: Linguistic accessibility (Arabic/Hebrew) and solutions from elementary to high school.

Students – Pedagogical Principles and Task Database Structure

The center’s student programs are based on stepped task database, adapted to a variety of abilities through varying levels of difficulty. Their main goal is to connect students to the world of mathematics through relevant, open, and multi-solution tasks, which enable differentiated learning and develop mathematical thinking in broad contexts.

The tasks are designed for online work and are accompanied by dynamic applets, with the option for offline work if necessary. As part of the center’s educational philosophy of accessibility for all students in Israel, most of the databases are also available in Arabic.

Student-Focused Programs

Maor Program

Maor (Light-Math) program connects the world of mathematics to everyday reality in middle school. Through multi-stage literacy tasks in the fields of science, society, and economics, students develop critical thinking and understand the relevance of the subject to their lives. Join us and give your students the tools for success in the 21st century.

Maof Program

Mathematical Maof (Fly with Math) program focuses on developing mathematical literacy and higher-order thinking in students with potential for excellence. The tasks require mathematical research and prepare students to deal with complex and challenging questions, including those appearing in international tests. This page details the program's research background and structure.

Math-Key Program

Math-Key open tasks allow every student in the classroom to find their own way to a solution. The program is designed for heterogeneous classrooms in middle and high schools and offers an approach that encourages flexible thinking and in-depth classroom discussion instead of a single solution. On the page, you will find an explanation of the program's principles and pedagogical approach.

Stepped Tasks Program

The road to 5 units passes through steps. The program offers complex tasks at the 5-unit level accompanied by gradual mediation, which allows students to solve matriculation problems with confidence. It is explained here how the method helps students approach exam challenges in a prepared and grounded way based on a sense of self-efficacy.

Teachers – Professional Development and Applied-Research Approach

The center’s teacher programs reflect a multi-dimensional applied-research approach, which provides a professional response to teaching needs at all levels of education – from elementary school to high school. These programs are based on up-to-date academic knowledge and offer applied pedagogical tools, with the aim of supporting teachers in promoting the quality of teaching and learning in the classroom.

The 5 Club

The 5 Club brings together communities of teachers who teach at the 5-unit level. The goal is simple: to improve the quality of teaching and give teachers a stage for professional discourse, peer learning, and the integration of advanced technology in the classroom. Details appear here regarding the nature of the activity in the communities and ways to join them.

Mathematical Challenge

Teaching high-level mathematics in a classroom with different learning levels is a significant challenge. This research develops tools and skills that help teachers adjust the level of difficulty and challenge for each student, without compromising on pedagogical quality. The page presents information on the research findings and the tools developed for teachers.

Teaching with Mind and Heart

Learning in elementary school is much more than grades. The THM (Teaching with the Heart and Mind) program integrates cognitive, emotional, and social aspects into the regular curriculum. We accompany educational teams in building a learning environment that sees the child as a whole beyond academic achievements.

Aklim – Critical Events

Aklim program trains mathematics teachers through the analysis of critical incidents from the classroom, which develop pedagogical judgment. On the page, you will find explanations of the method and access to a database of incidents including documentation of real situations, interpretations, and suggestions for response in real-time — an essential tool for every teacher aspiring to high pedagogical professionalism.
